Power of Attorney for Health:

In British Columbia, the Representation Agreement Act has been in effect since 2000. However, important changes were made to it in September 2011.

In British Columbia, a Living Will is called a "Representation Agreement". A Representation Agreement allows you to name a person to make important decisions on your behalf. There are two types of Representation Agreements: one covering Section 7 of the B.C. Representation Agreement Act and one covering Section 9. A Section 9

Representation Agreement is used by adults who want to plan for the future to cover all health and personal care matters. There is no requirement to consult a legal professional to create a Representation Agreement with Section 9 powers.

Primary Health Agent

You should name a person you would like to make medical or other decisions for you i f you become too sick to speak for yourself. This person is called a "Health Care Representative" (or "Health Care Agent" or "Health Care Proxy" or "Health Care Surrogate").

This person will have the authority to make all health care decisions regarding any care, treatment, service, or procedure to maintain, diagnose, treat, or provide for your physical or mental health or personal care, including decisions regarding the providing, withholding or withdrawing of life-sustaining treatment.

Financial Power of Attorney:

Power of Attorney grants powers to handle issues such as your  financial, real estate and business a airs. A Power of Attorney is different from a Will, since a Will is only effective after your death.
If you are ever in a position to not be able to look after your own a airs, a Power of Attorney is critical and is one of the most important documents in your estate planning portfolio.
An Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) is called "enduring" because it is effective even when you are mentally incapable. A springing power of attorney has authority over your finances only IF you become incapacitated and unable to act for yourself.
An immediate power of attorney has authority over your finances as soon as you sign the POA document.
Which is right for you?
